Louisiana is home to some of the best deep sea and big game fishing in the world. Just a few miles offshore you can find a variety of species that will challenge your angling skills. Red snapper, cobia, and grouper are just a few of the game fish that hang around the area's many oil rigs. The rigs act like artificial reefs and provide very consistent fishing year round. Farther offshore are game fish such as blue marlin, wahoo, dolphin, and yellowfin tuna. In fact, Louisiana's waters have produced some of the largest blue marlin ever caught on rod and reel, and the area is widely regarded as one of the premier marlin fisheries in the world. There are numerous charter boats standing ready to take anglers out, and some of the biggest and best big game fishing tournaments are held here annually. As an added bonus, during the summer months Louisiana's waters become home to some of the largest tarpon ever to bend a rod. Check out Grand Isle's Tarpon Rodeo to learn more!
